For most people in the West, terrorism is something that happens somewhere else, to someone else. For Jews, there is no such thing as a “post history” world. Terror has been a recurring reality throughout modern history and it is surging with frightening regularity today.
This section documents acts of terrorism targeting Jewish communities, Israelis, and Jewish institutions around the world. Some incidents made international headlines. Many did not, at least not in mainstream media outside of Jewish publications. Together, they tell a story that is often overlooked: Jews have been among the most consistently targeted victims of ideological, political, and religious violence for generations.
These attacks do not occur in a vacuum. They are frequently preceded by dehumanization, conspiracy theories, incitement, and the normalization of anti-Jewish hatred. Acknowledging these specific acts of terrorism means understanding the ideas that make violence against Jews seem justified to those who commit it, celebrate, or stand by silently and allow it to continue.
The purpose of this section is to document what is happening. It is also to inform and to provide context for what your Jewish friends, neighbors and acquaintances see and live with daily, usually in isolation from the broader community that likely does not see or experience these incidents. This is to help readers understand why many Jews view rhetoric, discrimination, and threats as a distinctive pattern, differently than those who have not lived with the long history of violence that so often follows.
